- About 8 percent of construction and building inspectors were self-employed; many these were home inspectors.

- Median annual wages of wage and salary construction and building inspectors were $50,180 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $39,070 and $63,360. The highest 10 percent earned more than $78,070.
